    Formation:

Singer Adam Duritz (former band member of Bay Area Himalayas) and guitarist Dave Bryson formed Counting Crows in San Francisco in 1991. Their experience in the Himalayas, Duritz had contributed to recordings by Bay Area group Sordid Humor ( “Barbarossa”), but never a member. Counting Crows began as an acoustic duo, giving concerts in and around Berkeley and San Francisco. Another friend, guitarist David Immergluck played with them occasionally, though not an official member of the group, experimenting with other musicians in the region. While the emerging band recorded some demos, and later, other musicians joined the duo to mount a full band, Immergluck engraved with others in some of the songs from her debut album. He refused to join the group at a time, because they belonged to two other popular local groups, the Monks of Doom and Camper Van Beethoven. In 1993 the group had grown to a stable programming Duritz as a singer, pianist and main songwriter, occasionally, Bryson on guitar, Matt Malley play bass, Charlie Gillingham on keyboards and Steve Bowman on drums and the band are regulars at the scene of the Bay Area. The same year the band signed with Geffen Records. As of January 16, 1993,  of the band, still relatively unknown, has taken the place of Van Morrison at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony, and was introduced by an enthusiastic Robbie Robertson. At the ceremony, which was a cover of Van Morrison’s “Caravan” which is available free on some sites. The unknowns are kept on playing only the ceremony.
